On Tuesday 16th May at 6 pm, in the evocative rooms of the ex Conservatorio Sant'Anna (Via Libertini, 1 - Lecce), there will be the presentation of CREATURE DI SABBIA - Creatures of Sand, an artistic residency project promoted by the Euro-Mediterranean Cultural Heritage Agency. The title is inspired by the novel *Creature of Sand* by Tahar Ben Jelloun, which tells the story of a woman's powerful and silent struggle against social oppression, central themes that resonate in the works of the participating young artists from Arab and Muslim cultures.
The project, which is taking place in Lecce for the first time, involves a wide network of artists, academics and guests of international renown, reflecting on gender equality and women's rights twelve years after the uprisings that shook the Mediterranean.
Thanks to the support of the Apulia Region, "Creature di Sabbia" will animate the city from 23 to 27 May 2023, with a full calendar of events, including residencies and public meetings, aimed at creating a space for discussion and awareness-raising on current issues and social justice.
Speakers at tomorrow's conference include
- Sen. Poli Bortone, President of the Euro-Mediterranean Cultural Heritage Agency.
- Ettore Bambi, scientific coordinator of the project.
- Andrea Laudisa, curator of the artistic residency - Associazione Positivo Diretto.
- Fabia Anna Cicirillo, Councillor for Education, Culture and Heritage, Municipality of Lecce.
